First acknowledge your need for Christ and by recognize the distance between you and God that your sin has created. Sin can be defined in many ways, but the easiest for me to understand is when sin is spelled "sIn" - with a capital "I" in the middle. I am calling the shots; I am living my life apart from God, I am living independent from God. One person has called it "I strain "--exalting myself to the place of first priority in my life, that belongs to God alone. Once our sin has been owned, we need to confess our sin--admit that it exists--and accept the fact that Jesus willingly died for my sin. But that's simply the first step.Secondly, we must surrender our life to Christ--relinquish our rights and give Him control of everything. How do you do this? Simply by faith through prayer. Here's an example of a prayer you can pray:
Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner - that I have lived my life apart from you and have willfully broken your laws. I ask you to forgive me.
I believe that you lived a perfect life and died on the cross for me and I thank you.
I surrender my whole life to You and invite You to live your life through me. Thank you for hearing and answering this prayer of my heart. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
Remember...it's not the words that are important, but the sincerity of your heart. Romans 10:9 summarizes it this way, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him for the dead, you will be saved." If that's your heart's desire today, why don't you take a moment right now and pray. You'll be glad you did, for today and all eternity!
