ABC’s of Student Ministry

Attend to listening to your students
Be a model of one who serves others to teach students SERVICE
Coach – don’t be a mere player. Leadership means getting students involved
Discipline when needed
Encourage your students
Form fun stuff to attract students
Grow in your personal relationship with God
Handle your ministry by the ninety minute plan:

  • one hour a week with one student
  • fifteen minutes per week writing notes to three students
  • fifteen minutes per week phoning three students

Inform others of your plans ( pastor, co-workers,parents,students)
Jeopordize no trust given to you
Know your students – by name, too!
Love Jesus, Love students!
Model for them the qualities you want them to exhibit
Never lose sight of priorities – God, then Family, then Students (others)
Open your home to students, give away your phone # and address
Pray for your students daily
Quench overcommitment
Reserve time in your schedule to build trusting relationships with students. Share your faith with your group.
Serve, share,seek,say it!
Team up, have a network, don’t go it alone
Understand students by reading books and magazines and by remembering what you were like when you were young
Visit places where students are - malls. sporting events, school concerts
Walk your Talk
EXperience regular time off
Yield to being yourself
Zero in on hurting, struggling or lonely young people
