Additional Care Ministries
Asbury Connection
Many people in our church family are limited in their ability to participate in the ongoing life of the church. Their activities are restricted because of age or illness. By making regular visits, reading, writing letters or listening, volunteers can show their continuing love and concern for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Bereavement Resources
When people are grieving, we want to provide extra support. “Pathways through Grief” and “Grief Share” are offered in alternating semesters. Special materials are sent to those who have lost a spouse or child throughout the first year of grief. Asbury’s Bereavement Consultant is available to speak to your group about ministering to those who are grieving. Bear Bags are available for children, teens or adults upon request. Scripture Booklets and Care Notes are located in the lobbies of the south and east entrances of the building.
Blood Ministry
People who participate in blood drives share themselves in a way that could be lifesaving to others. Check back later for next Blood Drive.
Care Meal Ministry
When members of our church family who do not belong to an Asbury Discipleship Community experience difficult times, meals are often helpful or needed. To communicate our love and concern, the Care Meal Ministry offers a meal, prepared by volunteers, to Asbury families in times of bereavement or other circumstances.
Hospital Visitation Ministry
Whenever a member or person affiliated with our church is hospitalized, that person is visited regularly by both ordained ministers and lay volunteers. Hospital visitors bring a few moments of joy to the patients and let them know we care by sharing their time and God’s love.
House Sitting Ministry
Since funerals are a matter of public record, unoccupied homes are easy targets for burglaries. During a funeral or memorial service, volunteers stay at the home of an Asbury family who does not belong to a Discipleship Community.
Employment Transitions
Provides quarterly workshops for people who are unemployed or underemployed.
Military Connection
To demonstrate the love of Christ, periodic care packages and monthly encouragement cards with God's Word are sent to Asbury-related military personnel. The Prayer Ministry also covers them in prayer. Please send contact information (complete name and address) to Ruth Winn at rwinn@asburytulsa.org, or call her at 392-1146.
Prayer Card Ministry
An encouraging card with God's Word can lift the spirits of someone who is experiencing illness or loneliness. Asbury's Prayer Card Ministry is an outreach to the congregation in love and concern. If you would like to receive twice-monthly cards, or know someone who would like to receive cards, please send contact information (name and address) to Ruth Winn at rwinn@asburytulsa.org, or call her at 392-1146. We also send cards and care packages to Asbury-related military personnel.
Respite Care
In collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association, volunteers provide the support and temporary relief needed by those who give 24-hour attention to individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease and cannot care for themselves. At the same time, Respite Care ensures loving, Christian companionship for a homebound person. Training for volunteers is provided by the Alzheimer’s Association.
For more information about one or more of these ministries, contact Ruth Winn at rwinn@asburytulsa.org.
