Focus Ministries

Focus Areas
Global Outreach has four focus areas:

The Kami people of Tanzania were the first unreached people adoption and the Azerbaijani people are the second group adopted. Seminary education is a major key in Central America and Estonia. All of our short-term mission teams known as Volunteers In Mission (VIM) are related to our focus areas. At least one team a year goes to these areas to maintain our relationships and partnership.

Caspian Ministry
Caspian MinistryThe Azerbaijani people are considered an unreached people group, with only 0.02% of the world’s 35 million Azerbaijani population being believers. Through Asbury’s connection to the Network of Azerbaijani Partnerships, an international network, people are being ministered to in a number of ways. Asbury’s involvement has included material supplies for a vocational school and psychiatric hospital in Gence, support of Bible translation in two different languages, support for the international facilitator of the partnership, support for a pastor/Bible translator, and support for a new missionary couple serving in-country. Asbury members have attended partnership meetings in Azerbaijan and have visited and ministered in Gence. A short-term mission team will assist in the vocational school in 2006.

Central America Ministry
Central America MinistryOur ministry has now expanded to involve work in both Mexico and Costa Rica. The partnership continues with the Juan Wesley Seminary in Monterrey, Mexico, as well as with Reverend Florencio Guzman and his church, Vina del Rey. Spring and fall construction/MBS trips are scheduled for this year. There will also be spring and summer multi-discipline teams going to the Centro Methodista Camp in Ciudad Quesada, Costa Rica to work with Asbury-supported missionaries Marion and Mary Woods. Medical/construction teams and financial support continue at Hands Together Mission in Rio Bravo, Mexico.

Kami Ministry – Tanzania
Kami MinistryEvangelists and pastors continue to plant and nourish village churches among the Kami people in the bush country of Tanzania. In 2006 an increasing number of evangelists will go to seminary to become full-fledged pastors which will improve the growth and discipleship of these new churches. Support for the pastors and evangelists is also a part of our work. Famine relief, widows and orphans care, kindergarten teacher training, provision of water wells, and medical care are other facets of this ministry. We also support our own missionary, Grant Miller, in this work as well as sending both construction and medical teams to the area.

Estonia Ministry
Estonia MinistryThe partnership in Estonia has expanded to include a “sister church” congregation in Parnu. We helped them financially to build their church building ten years ago and are now in full partnership with them. We continue the partnerships with the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary and with Camp Gideon. Support is also provided for a pastor at Voru in southern Estonia and for the Lighthouse Ministry to street children in Tallinn. Short-term mission teams will work at most of these sights in 2006. We are also a part of the US-European network called Friends of Estonia.
