Missionary Support
The World is Our ParishTwenty-eight families are supported under the global outreach budget. They are involved in various ministries and are in 17 countries including Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, Estonia, Hungary, the Middle East, Philippines, Tanzania, East Asia, Central Asia, Columbia, and Israel. Several travel world-wide related to their ministry. Twelve of our missionaries are people who grew up in Asbury or are currently members.


Willie Berman

Willie serves as the coordinator for all short-term mission work in the border areas of Mexico and Central Texas.  He also serves Pueblo de Dios Church in Reynosa.


Rev. Brent & Kim Burdick

Brent serves as president of the Faith Bible College as well as pastor of a church. Kim is involved in many of the women’s ministry areas in Manila. Brent is also working on his PhD through the International Beeson Program at Asbury Seminary.


Mike & Lari Cannon

Mike and Lari are coordinators of ministry to young people whose international families serve in some diplomatic or relief capacity. They are currently serving Youth Compass by establishing a US office to expand ministry to China.

Stephen & Lacey Click

Stephen and Lacey work through Student Mobilization to raise up laborers for Christ from college campuses.  They work in fraternities, sororities, and dorms at Oklahoma University sharing the Gospel and raising awareness for sending workers to the mission field. In June 2008 they will lead a team to India to serve for nine months on college campuses.

Tim & Daina Datwyler

Tim and Daina continue to serve through the Mission Society doing outreach in depressed areas of Quito and are also working in agriculture projects. Projects in which they are involved include a bee/honey project, strawberry growing farms and youth ministry.

Pete and Lori are with CAMA (Compassion and Mercy Associates) doing development and relief work. They oversee the production and marketing of silk products and water filtration systems

Wes and Joy provide intensive evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training for church leaders all over the world. Most of their training is held within the countries the leaders reside. One international conference is held in the U.S. each fall.

Florencio trains pastors, develops Bible training materials for pastors and new converts, and has developed a new association, “Conquistadores del Rey” (Conquerors for the King), for the purpose of providing children with basic discipleship training.


Herb Hafermann

Herb is a long-time Lutheran Missionary in Tanzania.  He and his wife Kirsten are retired and officially live in Iowa; however Herb spends much of the year as a volunteer in Tanzania coordinating the work of the mission district that was established in relation to Asbury’s adoption of the Kami people.

Jeff is a former IBM employee who left his job to go into career missionary work. He has established the first real estate company in this area. He and his family also build relationships with the local people in a small city. His wife, Becky, is home-schooling their four children and interacting with the local women.


Chris & Jo Jones

Kaupo was in the first graduating class of the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary and then he and Thea both did advanced studies at Asbury Seminary in Kentucky. They now serve churches in southern Estonia and also teach at the Baltic Seminary. They are involved in church planting, congregational development, and Christian education. They have two young sons, Joosep and Joel.

Geoff and Erica are working with both organizations to help provide outreach through the medium of music. Erica will be finishing her degree in ethnomusicology while on the field. They live in the Philippines and travel to various places in the world to compose and perform music that is indigenous to the local people.

While officially retired from the General Board of Global Ministries, Ken and Iweeta are serving the Asian churches of the Dallas area. They served in China for over 35 years prior to returning to the U.S. They are involved with over 15 churches in Dallas with members from several different Asian countries.

Grant provides pastoral support and training for the evangelists and pastors among the Kami people around Morogoro, Tanzania. He also teaches at the Lutheran Junior Seminary and helps coordinate the medical mission teams for Asbury as well as other aspects of the Asbury partnership.

Bryan and Abbey are on staff with The Traveling Team, which is a mission mobilization ministry. Joy in the Harvest is headquartered in Kigoma, Tanzania, near the Burundi and Congo border. Lowell and Claudia provide for church planting, literacy training, economic development, and relief for the refugee camps. Lowell is also a missionary pilot to provide medical evacuation and other transportation when needed. Kimberly and Luke are students at Asbury College in Kentucky.
